WHOLENESS AND WELLNESS OVER MEDICATIONS...
SAMUEL B. LEE M.D. — I SEE YOU.
Do you feel like doctors have been medicating you, but not fully understanding you?
Have you been disappointed with psychiatric medications and are seeking a different path, without the short-term and long-term risks that may come with medications?
Do you worry that you may have become overly dependent on sleeping pills or medications for mood/anxiety and would like to live a full, meaningful life without them?
Do you feel like you have more to offer this world and that there is a creative power within you waiting to be unleashed but feel stuck in fear and doubt?
Are you seeking a psychiatrist who is comfortable with alternative, holistic, and complementary treatments while having a judicious and conservative approach to psychiatric medications?
Are you seeking a psychiatrist who is passionate about what he does and has knowledge about natural supplements, plant medicine, breath work, nutrition, shamanism, spirituality and is a certified yoga instructor?
If you resonate with these questions, perhaps we should meet.
Who I Am...
I am...a board certified holistic psychiatrist who finds meaning in helping people feel empowered to overcome their programming, conditioning, and traumas so that they can realize the greatness that lies within themselves.
I am...a human being who has learned how to overcome depression, anxiety, trauma, and addiction through natural healing modalities.
I am...a curious, empathic, experienced, and honest soul who has learned diverse integrative modalities from around the world and believes that all of nature when given the proper support and tools holds an innate ability to integrate itself back into wholeness.
How I Practice
I seek to not only treat mental illness but to promote physical, mental, and energetic wellness. To do this, we will emphasize using medications for psychiatric stabilization with a common long term goal of tapering off of medications while optimizing the following natural healing modalities:
Nutrition. Exercise. Water. Sunshine. Fresh Air. Sleep. Music. Meditation. Connection. Supplements. Herbs. Vitamins.
Other integrative modalities that I have experience in and may be utilized include:
Breath Work: I am passionate about breath work. You'll never find anyone, anxious, angry, depressed, or angry breathing completely normal. The mind will follow the breath, or the breath will follow the mind, which one is leading the way? Breath patterns are indicative of our emotional and physical state of being. We may use the breath to activate the calm brain waves. While we are in a relaxed brain wave state, we can reprogram subconscious limiting beliefs, disconnect from then integrate traumas from the past, and even work on manifesting our desired future. Specific breath work programs may be prescribed to overcome mood disorders, anxiety, trauma, suppressed emotions, and many physical dis-eases.
Dr. Lee has and continues to passionately study different technologies of conscious breathing from various ancient and modern lineages. He has combined what he has learned to create a technology which he calls I. A.M. M.V.P. This breathing technology combines the most powerful and free force in the world, the breath, with conscious Intention, Affirmations, Music, Movement, Visualization, and Pranayama.
Therapy: I believe that supportive, honest, compassionate, and intuitive connection through therapy is the best way to treat emotional suffering. Perhaps we could explore how to observe our thoughts, without identifying with them. Perhaps we could learn how to replace negative and false thoughts, with positive thoughts that are in alignment with who we really are and want to be. Perhaps we could explore how to become aware of and let go of belief systems that protected us as children but no longer serve us as adults. Perhaps we could explore how to integrate our past traumas and experiences into our story instead of letting it define our story. Perhaps we could learn how to let go of the past, and live in the present moment where there is no anxiety or depression. By becoming aware of limiting belief systems, letting go of them, then reprogramming our subconscious and conscious minds, we can literally change our lives, by changing our minds. It would be a pleasure to join you in this journey.
Harmonyum Healing: Harmonyum is a powerful, elegant, spiritual healing system that was developed with the aim of making self-healing possible. It addresses disease at the mental and emotional level so that it may no longer exist in the physical body. Harmonyum leads to glowing health, vigor, happiness and increased longevity through the slowing of the aging process. Harmonyum promotes excellent health in the body and spirit by nurturing and strengthening one's primal essence. It promotes profound states of deep relaxation and restores the body to an ideal state of balance and harmony. It releases the body's innate healing wisdom and bestows the effect of years of meditation, bringing you into a higher cycle of manifestation. Harmonyum healing may be intuitively used during the visit to promote relaxation, integration, and healing.

Plant Medicine: Plants, when worked with in the right dosage, set, setting, and intention may help raise one's level of consciousness. They can help shift one's paradigm and perspective regarding their past traumas, present difficulties, and future endeavors. Some describe working with plants as having 1,000 therapy sessions in one experience. Some plants also have an ability to help people with life long addictions. However, this work is not for everyone, and should be approached with respect, humility, and honest intention.
My areas of expertise are the following:
Substance dependence and abuse
Trauma and PTSD
Health and lifestyle
Obsessive compulsive disorder
School and/or work issues
What Can I Expect on my first Visit?
Prior to our first visit, we can connect on the phone for a brief 5-10 minute conversation to ensure that we are a good fit to work together. You may also fill out an initial intake form and send it back to me so we can save time for our actual visit, and I can have an idea of your medical history prior to meeting.
During our first visit, I will strive to be completely present with you. This means, I will not be typing and you will have my undivided attention and care.
We may utilize breath work to arrive in a relaxed and present state of being.
We will then proceed to engage in open and honest dialogue and everything we speak about will remain confidential. We will explore your physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual health and examine areas of strength, and areas that we may want to bring into balance. We will discuss symptoms, without placing you into a box of a diagnosis. When we feel there is a mutual understanding of the desired outcome of treatment we will formulate a realistic, specific treatment plan geared towards eradicating symptoms by addressing the root cause. We will ensure that you have the adequate knowledge, tools, medication (if necessary), supplements, and support to make progress towards your goal of becoming the best version of yourself.
If both parties agree, a follow up appointment may be scheduled.
I do not accept insurance nor work directly with insurance companies. However, if you have a PPO insurance plan you may be able to get a portion of my fees reimbursed from your insurance company (see below).
In order for me to provide the most effective care I can, I operate outside of the insurance system. I do this because insurance companies incentivize psychiatrists to have short, medication-focused visits, and have treatment guidelines based on this flawed system. This does a disservice to patients.
While I do not accept insurance, I can provide you with a statement that you can submit to a PPO insurance plan. To determine if you have mental health coverage through your insurance carrier, the first thing you should do is call them. Some helpful questions you can ask your insurance carrier:
- What are my mental health benefits?
- What is the coverage amount per therapy session?
- How many therapy sessions does my plan cover?
- How much does my insurance pay for an out-of-network provider?
- Is approval required from my primary care physician?
Initial visit (1-1.5 hrs) - $300
Follow up (50min) - $250
Follow up (25min) - $150
There may also be occasion for a brief phone follow up, for which I charge $75 per 15min.
Tele-psychiatry visits through online platforms such as Zoom may also be considered if you feel called to connect but are not in the Los Angeles area.
If you feel called to connect but can not afford the current energy exchange, please reach out as all energy exchanges will be considered on a sliding scale.
I accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Venmo, PayPal, and cash. I do not accept checks. I will ask for payment at the beginning of our visit.
